Gov. Amosun denies that a youth corps member had twins for him

…says allegation of extra-marital affair is a plan to discredit him

Senator Ibikunle Amosun, the Ogun State Governor, has denied an allegation that he gave birth to a set of twins recently, saying that the allegation was baseless and aimed to destabilize his home.

The governor made the clarification at the 2017 Town Hall Meeting on 2018 budget held at June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta.

It would be recalled that Amosun was recently alleged to have impregnated a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, who was posted to Government House, Ogun State for her service year.

It was also learnt that the said corps member was flown abroad to shield the information from the public where she gave birth to set of twins.

He said, “I have been married for almost 27 years ago, I have my children. I have not had extra marital affairs since then. How can I engage myself with unscrupulous things. I have called my children and told them not to bother themselves with any rubbish that might be published about me because as a governor, I cannot have any private life again and I warned them to be careful of their actions and inaction.

“Thank God, my children are all matured. They understand what is happening. They are not bothered at all. My wife even challenged me that she heard that somebody gave birth to twins for me. I told her that there was nothing like that. I told her not to bother herself on the matter because there was no iota of truth on the matter.

“I do not have plan of marrying another wife now. That is not part of my plan now. One wife is even a problem. When I am 70 years old, I can then marry another wife because my wife and I must have grown old and we will need a younger woman who can take good care of us,” Amosun said.

Amosun, who used the opportunity of the town hall meeting to clear the air on the purported raid of his Lagos residence by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the recovery of huge sums of money in foreign currency, which went viral in social media recently, said the purported story was “ false”.

He described the allegation as nothing, but another in a series of political attacks to tarnish his image as 2019 general elections is fast approaching, saying that there had been “series of false and malicious accusations on his person, pointing out that all the move were attempts to pull him down politically. ”

The governor however vowed to take legal action against the perpetrator of the false story, saying “I will smoke them.”

I told somebody few days ago that as 2019 general elections is fast approaching, oppositions had begun to write all sorts of fake stories in the media, just to gain cheap political goals.

“If care is not taking, we would not see reliable and serious persons to vie for political positions in Nigeria again because of “character assassination” that characterizes the country’s political scene.

About 10 days ago, it was my wife who brought to my notice the fake EFCC story. I got different telephone calls on the matter. Even my mother-in-law also queried me that she heard that I kept money in foreign currency in a vault in my house in Lagos and I told her that there was nothing like that.

“I told my wife that she should not bother herself with such “fake story.” Some people rather than using their valuable time for valuable things, they just sit down in a corner and concoct whatever they want in the media.

“I can’t imagine an unserious person who wants to be governor of this (Ogun) state, rather than begin to marshal his plans and programmes for the growth and development of the state; he was busy engaging in character assassination.

“Nobody can pull Amosun down. Nobody can destroy Amosun politically. Nobody can destabilise my government. I do not see them. I do not see whatever nonsense they are writing. I do not reckon with them. I am not bothered with their fake and concocted stories.

“Let me assure you, all those behind the fake story will go to jail. We are going to smoke them to serve as deterrent, they will go to jail.

“I want to appeal to you our Kabiyesi (traditional rulers) do not come to me to beg for anybody because they must suffer for their actions. I don’t want to hear that it was a mistake. This was not their first time. They must suffer for this. They must go to jail.

“Any responsible and sensible person who is vying to be governor of this Ogun State should occupy himself with programmes and plans to further move the state forward, not that some useless and jobless people will gather themselves in a corner and be planning on how to destabilise the state. I know those behind the dastardly act and I can even mention their names”.
