BEVERLLY HILLS, April 18, (THEWILL) – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have searched the Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, apartment of former governor of Anambra state, Peter Obi.

According to Obi's media aide, Valentine Obienyem, Obi's flat, along with those of other residents, was searched after the EFCC recovered $43.4million in one of the flats last Wednesday.

Obienyem said Obi and his wife rented the house that was searched, and that they stayed there anytime they were in Lagos but stated that the former governor was away in the US with his wife when the EFCC stormed the place.

“Even though Mr. and Mrs Obi had travelled to the USA and the UK for speaking engagements, when we relayed the message of the search to him, he quickly sent the keys to the 4-bedroom apartment to the EFCC via courier,” the statement read.

“He even left instructions that we should allow them to also search his Onitsha residence should there be need for that.

“After the thorough searching, nothing was found in the apartment.”

THEWILL had exclusively reported that the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) had claimed ownership of the $43,449,947, £27,800 and N23, 218,000 seized last Wednesday by the EFCC from Osborne Towers, a luxury residential complex in Ikoyi, Lagos, owned by ex-National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr. Adamu Muazu.
