ONLY INTERNAL DEMOCRACY CAN GUARANTEE POLITICAL REFORMS – OYINLOLA
Osun State Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola has espoused that only well laid internal democracy could pave way for genuine political reforms in the country.
Prince Oyinlola, in a statement by his Press Secretary, Mr Kayode Oladeji, made the observation while speaking with newsmen at the weekend in Akure when he called on his Ondo State counterpart, Dr Olusegun Mimiko at the Government House.
The governor said though the much talked about political reforms were necessary, the political parties must ensure adherence to the practice of internal democracy, maintaining that he was in support of reforms that would enhance the polity and the general well-being of the people.
'Electoral reform is very necessary. I am for anything that will give our electoral culture the needed face. To me, we need things that can help give our democracy the needed definition.'
He, however, advised parties to see the issue of internal democracy beyond rhetoric's, stressing that 'in doing this, we have to start with internal democracy by respecting the wishes of the people in choosing the right candidates.'
On the chances of the PDP in 2011 elections, Prince Oyinlola averred that the party was repositioning with a view to maintaining its winning streak. 'You know we are the largest party in Africa and as such we are leaving nothing to chance at ensuring we remain the best.'
