Court remands three in Prison over armed robbery, attempted murder

A magistrate court in Osogbo, Osun State presided over by Magistrate Olusola Aluko has remanded accused, Oyewale Kazeem, Rabiu Olajide and Ramon Olayide at Ilesa prison custody over alleged armed robbery and attempted murder.

Police prosecutor, Mr Elisha Olusegun briefed the court that the accused allegedly broke into the house of one Oyeyemi Olalekan around Pavilion Hotel, Osogbo on the 6th of October, 2016 armed with guns and cutlasses.

He said that the accused persons stole the sum of N200,000 and two phones valued at N354,500, property of Olalekan. He added that they also inflicted Olalekan with several machete cuts but did not succeed in killing him.

He explained that the offences committed by the duo are contrary to and punishable under sections 320(1) and 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 34, volume II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002 and also under section 6(b) and section 1(1) (2)(a)(b) of the Robbery and Firearms (special provisions) Act Cap RII, volume 14, Laws of Federation of Nigeria, 2014.

The plea of the accused persons was not taken as judge, Magistrate Olusola Aluko ordered that they should be remanded at Ilesa prison custody and the case file duplicated to the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice. The Magistrate adjourned the case till the 23rd of May, 2017.
