Buhari nominates 27 as INEC RECs, seeks senate confirmation

President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki, on Thursday, read a letter from Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, in which he sought legislative approval for the nomination of 27 Nigerians as Resident Electoral Commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Osinbajo transmitted the nominations to the Senate in February, when President Muhammadu Buhari was on medical vacation in the United Kingdom.

The Senate President thereafter referred the nominees to the committee on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), where they would be screened before eventual confirmation by the Senate.

Among the 27 REC nominees, 19 of them are being nominated for fresh appointments, while eight are for re-appointments in their various postings across the country.

The nominees include Professor Godswill Obioma , Abia State, Ibrahim Abdullahi , Adamawa State  Ahmed Makama, Bauchi , James Iorliam Apam, Benue, Barrister Mike Igini, Delta, Dr. Nkwachukwu Orji, Ebonyi, Dr Illoh Joseph Valentine Chuks, Enugu,  Hussaini Halilu Pai   FCT, Sadiq Abubakar Musa,  Kaduna, Jibril Ibrahim Zarewa,  Kano.
