Keep Away From Drugs, Cultism, Okowa Charges Youths

The Delta State Governor, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa, has stressed the importance of moral values towards checking the menace of social vices in the society.

Governor Okowa, who was speaking during a one-day youths orientation programme held in Boji Boji Owa, Ika North East Local Government Area, with the theme: Cultism And Nigerian Child" on Tuesday (28/02/2017), said moral values are fast fading away because of anti-social vices such as cultism, examination malpractices, drug abuse and kidnapping among the youths.

The governor, represented by the state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Patrick Ukah, said government is interested in disciplined environment for government’s policy of prosperity for all Deltans and SMART Agenda to thrive in the state.

He said that lack of confidence remains a factor leading most children to embrace anti- social vices; hence the increasing moral decadence in the society today.

The governor charged secondary school students from within and outside the local government to be apostles of prosperity packages, good ambassadors of their communities and schools, agents of good behaviours and avoid bad fellowship.

Senator Okowa said that it was important for them to keep away from cultism, drugs, examination malpractices and other vices inimical to their development as children with bright future and assist the state government in spreading the gospel of good moral values.

In his remarks at the occasion, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youths Development and Director representing Delta North in the Directorate of Orientation, Hon. Innocent Esewezie, said that the programme was packaged to educate and sensitise school children on the dangers of cultism, examination malpractices and drug abuse.

Hon Esewezie advised that these vices are destiny terminators and destroyers of responsible lives. He added, that they should stay away from these vices and embrace good moral values.

Also speaking, the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Orientation, Barr. Eugene Uzum, said cultism is a wicked and evil act that cuts life short and are destroyer of careers of the vulnerable, saying that the lives of people are in danger because of the wickedness of cultism, cult groups and associated vices.

In a lecture, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Zanna Ibrahim, said cultism has destroyed the values and morals of the Nigerian society.

Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Nicholas Azinge, asked students to channel their energies to positive activities that would add values to their lives.

He advised parents and care givers to create programmes that would impart positively on their wards.
