Two Kidnapped Germans Regain Freedom

SAN FRANCISCO, February 26, (THEWILL) – The two Germans who were recently kidnapped in Kaduna state have regained their freedom.

THEWILL gathered that the victims, German archaeologist, Prof. Peter Breunij, and his research assistant, Johannes Buringer, were released in Katari village, along the Kaduna – Abuja expressway, on Saturday by their abductors.

They were released unhurt after intense pressure and surveillance around the forest by a combined team of Intelligence Response Team, Police Mobile Force and personnel of the state Anti-Kidnapping Unit.

According to a statement issued in Kaduna, on Sunday , by Samuel Aruwan, Special Assistant to the Kaduna State Governor on Media and Publicity, the victims have been re-united with officials of the German embassy in Abuja.

Aruwan revealed tha the state Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, had expressed delight and commended the security agencies for their efforts in securing the release of the Germans.

THEWILL recalls that the Germans were kidnapped on February 22 at an archaeological excavation site in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
