Dr. Olusegun Mimiko has officially handed over the mantle of power to Rotimi Akeredolu as the new governor of Ondo state.

Mimiko handed over the documents of the government to Mr. Akeredolu at about 8:20 pm on Thursday at the Cocoa Conference hall of the governor's office.

The outgoing governor thanked the people of the state for their trust throughout his eight years tenure.

He explained that he is leaving the state peaceful and better than he met noting he would continue to support the incoming administration.

'The state is in good hand with a man like Akeredolu taking over from me. I have no doubt that Akeredolu will serve the state well.

'I will continue to pray for the state and offer myself for the development when necessary' Mimiko said.

Remarking, Mr. Akeredolu appreciated the outgoing government of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) for a good transition process.

He stated that the outgoing governor Mimiko has done his best for the people of the state and commended him for serving meritoriously.

He, however, extended a hand of fellowship to outgoing members of the State Executive Council (SEC) for a successful tenure.

The event was attended by both stalwarts of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressive Congress (APC).
