The best twenty-five graduates of agriculture of the Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro in 2016 were provided with financial empowerment by the state government to establish their farms.

The rector of the polytechnic, Dr Jacob Oboreh disclosed this last week at Ozoro during the 15th matriculation ceremony for the 2016/2017 session.

The rector also said that another twenty-five graduates shall benefit in 2017 as part of the deliberate effort of the polytechnic to make its graduates employers of labour instead of job seekers.

The rector therefore charged the matriculating students to take their studies seriously as the sky is their limit as regards the acquisition of knowledge and skills for personal improvement and overall development of the society.

Oboreh further disclosed that all the twenty-one departments and thirty-two programmes at HND and ND have been approved and accredited by the National Board for Technical Education.

He stated that these achievements were possible because of the assistance and understanding of the state governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa.

The rector explained further: `Let me use this opportunity to appreciate Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, the Governor of the state and Visitor to the Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro for his commitment, support and prompt payment of salaries. The Delta State Government even in the face of dwindling revenue had continued to pay staff salaries monthly. He has also been very supportive of the functional operations of the polytechnic through the release of subvention to the polytechnic. We also wish to specially thank him for the release of the sum of one hundred million Naira which was used to rapidly complete the execution of the stadium complex`.

Oboreh charged the matriculating students to see their present academic position as a stepping stone to greater heights by obeying the rules and regulations of the institution, and at the same time facing their studies, saying that the school management and lecturers were committed to their welfare and academic progress.

The highlight of the matriculating ceremony was the matriculation oath administered on the students by the registrar and the signing of the matriculation register.
