BEVERLY HILLS, December 21, (THEWILL) – The Nigeria Police has revealed that it will hire foreign forensic experts to investigate the leaked audio where Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, was allegedly heard threatening to kill uncooperative electoral officials.

A voice, apparently Wike's, could be heard in the audio threatening to kill some electoral commission officials whom he claimed had received money but were yet to deliver on their promise.

The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, confirmed that the forensic investigators would be invited to assist a panel to analyse the audio recordings and the violence that marred the election in which at least two police officers were murdered.

Idris made this known when the Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Mahmood Yakubu, paid him a condolence visit in Abuja.

Idris disclosed that the panel to investigate the incidents in Rivers elections would be inaugurated on Thursday promising that the police would deal with any of its officials involved in election fraud in Rivers.

Meanwhile, Wike has already set up its own commission to investigate the violence that marred the elections while the PDP has rejected the police investigation and asked President Muhammadu Buhari to set up an independent panel on the matter.

According to a special government announcement signed by the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Kenneth Kobani, the Judicial Commission of Inquiry has Justice Chinwendu Nwogu as Chairman while members are Mrs. Grace Akpughunum-Okwulehie, Prof. O.V.C. Okene and Sir Anthony Ozurumba.

Others are Rev. Canon Hossanna Nnaewi, Alphonso Sibi Esq (Chief State Counsel, Secretary) and C. B. Ekeh Esq. (Principal State Counsel, Legal Counsel).
