BEVERY HILL, December 01, (THEWILL) – Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal‎ High Court Abuja on Thursday refused to grant bail to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, and three other accused persons namely: Benjamin Nmadubugwu, Chidiebere Onwudiwe and David Nwawusi.

Delivering verdict on an application for bail filed by Kanu's counsel, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, the presiding judge held that the offences for which the defendants are standing trial were not entirely bailable, pointing out that the treasonable felony they were charged with attracts‎ a life sentence.

She then denied the defendants bail on the basis that their case was sensitive to national security.

‎Reacting to the defense counsel's argument that President Muhammadu Buhari had made a statement on national television that tends to declare Kanu guilty as charged, she said: “The president has freedom of speech; he can express his opinion on any matter”.
