We'll continue to finance development projects – Ecobank MD

The Managing Director, Ecobank Nigeria, Charles Kie, has restated the commitment of the Bank to continue to support projects that impact positively on the lives of the people and economic development of the country.

Speaking at the commissioning of Abia Retail Shopping Mall (Shoprite) in Umuahia, Abia State recently, Kie who was represented by Team Lead, Medium and Local Corporates, Commercial Banking, South East, Jovita Okeahialam, affirmed that the Bank has a deliberate policy to finance projects that stimulates development and has direct bearing on the people, stressing that it was the motive behind the bank's decision to be one of the financiers of the Abia Shoprite.

In his words: 'We find it quite fulfilling to be part of this project. This shopping mall will no doubt promote commerce, enhance peoples' lives and as a matter of fact bring development to the state in general. We will continue to support such initiative in the continent.'

Earlier, the Managing Director, Abia Retail Mall, Mr. Chuka Okoye lauded Ecobank for being one of the key financials of the projects, stating that, the Bank's support to developmental projects in the country and the state in particular was quite commendable.

He saluted the support of the Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, former Governor, Senator Theodore Orji, Chief Sam Onuigbo and his team members for making it possible for the project to be completed.

He assured them of good quality products in the mall and urged people to patronize them.

Speaking at the event, the State Governor, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu said the mall will be a hub of opportunities for people all over the world to do business, noting that Abia now belongs to the comity of States that have Shoprite.

He made case for Made-in-Abia products, such as shoes and bags be displayed alongside foreign ones, assuring that, Made-in-Abia products would attract more customers because of the high qualities.

He commended the former Governor, Senator Theodore Orji for initiating the project and other organisations like Ecobank for supporting the project.
