FG continues its Cost Management Skills for Senior Civil Servants

The Federal Government through the Efficiency Unit of the Federal Ministry of Finance has embarked on a series of management workshops for federal ministries,departments and agencies(MDAs), in cost management and prudent application of resources, and would be holding the second edition of the workshop for another batch of senior civil servants scheduled for November 22nd and Knowledge Sharing Forum on 23rd 2016, at the Auditorium of the Federal Ministry of Justice, Abuja.

The Federal Ministry of Finance in a press statement says expectations for participants in the second edition of the workshop includes cost management, and learning necessary skills that would guide them in ensuring prudent application of government resources for optimum value.

Knowledge gained during the workshops are expected to be applied by the participants in the management of public funds under their control in a transparent manner, bring best value for money and eliminate wastes in public sector spending.

November 23rd will be Knowledge Sharing Forum on Cost Management for Government officials,Commissioners for Finance and top civil servants drawn from the 36 states of the Federation and the FCT at the same venue.

The development followed a decision by state governors during one of the National Economic Council meetings to key into the efficiency drive initiated by the current administration to improve the management of public expenditure. By building the capacity of State Commissioners for Finance and other top officials involved in spending public resources, the Federal Ministry of Finance through the Efficiency Unit will be contributing towards prudent application of public funds at the sub- national level.

The Efficiency Unit has introduced controls, limits, standards and transparency in spending on Overhead Expenditure items through the appropriate government offices, it is necessary that public officials who are directly or indirectly responsible for incurring costs were equipped with the requisite skills to achieve the desired efficiency.

In order to achieve this objective, the workshops would cover both theoretical aspects of cost management and cite practical examples of their successful applications from other countries and the private sector.
