SAN FRANCISCO, November 09, (THEWILL) – Nobel laurate, Prof. Wole Soyinka has revealed that he would hold onto his green card pending when US President-elect, Donald Trump assumes office.

Soyinka had vowed to tear his green card the moment Donald Trump wins.

“If in the unlikely event he does win, the first thing he'll do is to say [that] all green-card holders must reapply to come back into the US. Well, I'm not waiting for that,” he had said.

“The moment they announce his victory, I will cut my green card myself and start packing up.”

He became the centre of criticisms on social media platforms over the outcome of the US presidential election with Nigerians asking when he would fulfil his promise.

However, in an exclusive interview with Newsweek, Soyinka revealed that he will not destroy his U.S. residency permit just yet saying he is biding his time until Trump is inaugurated in January before deciding on his next steps.

“Why don't we wait until Trump actually takes office?” says Soyinka.

“I'm just going about my normal commitments, but definitely not getting into any more commitments. Let's put it that way for now.”
