Efcc Detains Former Presidential Spokesman, Abati

BEVERLY HILLS, October 24, (THEWILL) – Former Presidential Spokesman and serial columnist, Mr. Reuben Abati has been detained by Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, the EFCC.

An agency source who confirmed the development said Abati is being questioned as part of a wide probe into the misappropriation of funds earmarked to purchase arms for the military in the fight against terror.

Abati, who was arrested on Monday, is alleged to have received money from former NSA, Sambo Dasuki, who is also being tried for misappropriating the funds amongst several other charges. The funds were allegedly used to prosecute the 2015 presidential election on behalf of the Goodluck Jonathan presidential campaign.

THEWILL can report that Abati becomes the fourth former aide of Jonathan currently in EFCC custody.

A former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro and Femi Fani-Kayode, a former campaign spokesperson to Jonathan are also presently in custody of the agency over the same matter.

Abati had recently written an epistle claiming spiritual onslaught in Aso Rock.
