On Thursday, October 13, Twenty One Chibok girls were released by the Boko Haram Terrorist and picked up in Banki Area of Borno State.

I felicitate with President Buhari, especially with the affected families of the abducted Chibok girls and commend the efforts of the Nigerian Military, the Multi-National Joint Taskforce as well as the International partners, in the fight against insurgency in the North East.

It will be recalled that over 200 Chibok girls were abducted by Boko Haram on April 14, 2014.

On Sunday October 16, 2016 the Chibok girls were reunited with their parents and family members at a passionate ceremony in Abuja.

The release of the Chibok girls is one of President Muhammadu Buhari’s finest achievements in his seventeen month administration and I must commend him. During this period, Nigeria has made huge gains against the Boko Haram as life is returning to normal in many of the previously affected areas in the North East.

As at the time the news filtered into town that Boko Haram has abducted over two hundred girls, many people disbelieved the authenticity of the abduction. While some thought that the abduction was contrived to bunkum the achievement of Goodluck Jonathan which made his administration relaxed in searching for the abducted girls, without considering the pain and suffering the girls and their families were going through.

The despicable accounts described by the released girls as well as the tears of joy by their family members show the miscalculation of decision the past administration took on rescuing the girls.

This is possibly a turning point in one of the worst acts of terror to have occurred in the history of Nigeria and I must use this opportunity to call on Nigerians to be patient with the current administration as it is capable of finding solutions to the problems confronting the nation.

I also called on my colleagues in the media to do balanced journalism in their reportage as I have taken note of so many editorials debunking the abduction of the girls while others have dedicated columns and news hours for the release of the Chibok girls.

I will also urge the Federal Government not to be deterred by criticisms and focus on how to secure the release of the girls still with the Boko Haram sect as Nigerians will soon recognise all the current administration was doing to make Nigeria great again.

Finally, I commend the military and Nigerians, who have kept faith with their prayers during the long period the girls, were in captivity.
