GoTV General Manager, Sales and Distribution, Akinolu Salu has debunked the notion that GoTV was developed and designed to edge Startimes out of the market, saying their aim all along is to bring digital TV to the common man on the street.

“Competition is a very good thing but we didn’t move in that mood. The essence of GoTv is to ensure that the last man standing in Nigeria can be able to afford digital television. So, it is not just about competition but more about our people. We want to keep our people educated, informed and entertained. It’s not fair taking away entertainment from the man on the street,” he explained. Daddy Showkey, mr Ibu, Aki and Pawpaw and Gotv officials

Speaking on the fifth anniversary celebration, Mr Salu said there are many reasons for them to roll out drums to celebrate, going by the success they have achieved over the last five years.

“Despite the fact that the country is going through a very challenging time, we have kept our prices. We have further gone ahead to ensure that everybody within different strata of the economy can afford GoTv. We launched our existence with a banquet that N1800 but we further skipped down to a package that cost N1200. Now, we have what we call GoTv light . This is a proper selection of twenty channels and these channels are for every member of the family just for #400monthly. If you decide to subscribe in bulk, you can do a quarterly subscription for #1050 and for a year, you pay #3000. You can’t get anything better that this any where.”

Explaining why only five cities, Portharcourt, Enugu, Abuja, Ibadan and Lagos will witness the celebration, he said, “We chose these cities because these are the cities where we have most of our subscribers. Also, we launched GoTv first in these cities. So, it just made sense to go to them first to say a big thank you to them and those that will be joining them too.
