All govt institutions are corrupt – Osinbajo

By The Citizen

Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), has said the present administration's fight against corruption will touch every sector in the society because all government institutions in the country are corrupt.

He lamented that corruption had permeated every stratum of the society and was responsible for poverty and other challenges facing the nation.

Osinbajo spoke in Ado Ekiti on Friday during the 2016 convocation ceremony of the Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, where Governor Ayodele Fayose called on the Federal Government to support the state in the construction of an airport.

'I have a great respect for Chief Afe Babalola because of his stand against corruption. Sometimes in 2002, Chief Babalola argued the case for the establishment of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission where he let the court realise that corruption is the greatest problem of our nation.

'All the institutions of government, I mean the executive, legislature and the judiciary are corrupt. What we need is serious reorientation. That is why ABUAD is a great university because it teaches knowledge, character and morality. So, value reorientation is a key weapon to fight corruption.

'That is why the Federal Government is intervening, because if we refuse to act, every facet of the country will fail.  We must act fast and deal with the situation as quickly as possible.'

He commended ABUAD for blazing the trail in the academic and other resourceful ventures. He advised the graduands to be multi-skilled to be able to compete under the present economic situation.

'You must be trustworthy and honest apart from being skilful and resourceful to be able to make a great impact in the future ahead of you. You must reflect on the values they taught you in the institution and be conscious of the fact that Nigeria, your country, must be great and through which this can be achieved with your contributions.' - Punch.
