SECOND Republic Governor of Lagos State and National Chairman of Action Party of Nigeria ( APN ), Alhaji Lateef Jakande, yesterday, assessed the President Umaru Yar' Adua administration and declared that it lacked the necessary political machinery to restore Nigeria's glory.

Besides, he said ill health of the president was another major hindrance to his ability to deliver the gains of democracy to Nigerians.

Jakande, who addressed delegates to the fifth National Convention of his party, held at Jabita Intercontinental Hotel Ikeja , Lagos , claimed that though, the president was a nice person, the problems of the country were beyond him.

He said in order to move the country forward, democrats should be prepared to make a change in leadership at the national level in 2011.

Jakande, who was elected on the ticket of the defunct Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN), founded by the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, earned the accolade, “Action Governor,” for his spectacular feat in office.

He said the country would need a more dynamic and focused leadership to guarantee its return to glory.

“It shows that the Yar'Adua administration is not ready to govern the country. Though, Yar 'Adua is a nice person, the problems of the country are beyond him. Apart from his health problem, he doesn't have the political machinery to govern the country. The country needs more dynamic people-oriented government.

“The way forward is to have a change in 2011, (Barack) Obama, has done it in the United States . Many things needed to be done in Nigeria that are left undone. Nigeria is in darkness , and there is no excuse for being in darkness; the present administration is not up to the task ,” he said.

Jakande noted that from all indications so far, there were no hope that things are going to get better.
