International Day of Peace: Galaxy4Peace Reiterates Their Commitment To Promote Peace At 2016 Sweat4Peace Walk

Lagos, Nigeria - In commemoration of International Peace Day, Galaxy4Peace joined the rest of the world to observe the global Peace Day with Sweat4Peace walk on 17th September, 2016.

International Day of Peace declared to be observed annually on 21st September by United Nation presents a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples.

The over 15 kilometers Sweat4Peace walk brought hundreds of young people in Lagos together during which they called attention to peacebuilding issues, advocated on the need for everyone to give Peace A Chance and called on government to strongly support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals for achieving a sustainable peaceful society.

2016 Peace Day theme “Sustainable Development: Building Blocks for Peace" highlights majorly how ending poverty contributes to global harmony.

“With rates of conflicts, terrorism, bullying in the society, there needs to be a local, national, and global movement to improve the teaching and promotion of peace culture in homes, and communities.” Founder-Project Lead Miss Precious Ajunwa

Miss Ajunwa continued: “At Galaxy4Peace we strongly believes that intensifying peace education strategies such as introduction of peace education in Nigeria school curriculum, and adequate investment on such peacebuilding projects, will drastically help in building the necessary resilience to cope with crises and conflict in our communities.

“On this International Peace Day, we reiterate our commitment towards delivering Teach Peace Early Campaign programmes, ensuring the crucial significance of starting early, and call on government to look into solving those factors that impedes global harmony” Miss Ajunwa ended.

At Sweat4Peace previous and its third edition celebrated today, over 10,000 people in Nigeria has been sensitized and this has puts Nigeria on the map as one of the countries whose citizens are yearning for a peaceful society hence see the need for Walking the Peace Talk in honour of the global day for peace.

Our platform improve youth participation in peacebuilding, utilizing ever-youth power in scaling up their participation in peacebuilding, to enhance and increase the actualization of goal 16 of the sustainable Development Goal in Nigeria.

“Our vision is getting larger, Sweat4Peace walk was observed in two cities - Lagos & Kano hence we will continue to expand our platform getting more young people participate in our peacebuilding programs, specifically targeting those of them within our target age group.” Amy Nancy, Communication Officer of the Galaxy4Peace.

Celebrities present at the walk were Comedian MC Shaggi, Oghenekaro Itene, Pryse of Chocolate City and popular blogger Lazy Writa.

Highlights of the event include a peace talk, and performance by Hip-Hop artist Pryse
