Maintain The Peace

By Michael Ipheghe

The group, Organisation For Global Youths Peace, Empowerment And Development Initiative (OGYPEDI) congratulates the good people of Edo State on the peaceful conduct of the 28th governorship election in the state. We also use this medium to commend the people of Edo State most especially the youths, security agencies, the political actors and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for seeing to it that the election was hitch free which led to massive turn out of voters.

We hereby once again call on the good people of Edo State and the political gladiators in the state to continue to conduct themselves peacefully irrespective of the outcome of the election as there are mechanisms for seeking redress in the event of any perceived injustice, dissatisfaction or grievances.

In the same vein, the electoral umpire INEC must continue to do the needful and ensure that the process is credible and avoid the declaration of the election ‘inconclusive’ as it is not good for our democracy non the present state of the economic situation of the country.

If you can recall, OGYPEDI on the 21st of September, 2016 embarked on a peace rally in the streets of Benin city in commemoration of the International Day of Peace and the group used to occasion to visit notable institutions and individuals in the state to pass on the message of peace and the need to maintain the peace in the state before, during and after the election. This message remains the same as we are of the firm believe that war, anarchy, conflict can never be viable alternatives to peace.
