My Sympathy For Turai

By Odimegwu Onwumere

All the perceived politics with the then ailing President Umar Yar'Adua who battled ill-health for about six months has come to an end, with Yar'Adua giving up the ghost in the night of May 5, 2010, at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.

While Nigerians mourn the death of Yar'Adua, my condolences and sympathy go to Hajia Turai, the wife of the deceased, who has lost not just a husband but a “first class” husband at the age of 58. My sympathy goes to Turai, whose husband died in May but we had mourned him in November.

Turai was indomitable during the days of her husband's ailment. She took the whole episode as a personal issue, not Nigeria's issue? Even the now President Goodluck Jonathan once confessed that he has not seen Yar'Adua for five months now, but some Imams blatantly said they drank tea with him. That was in April.

I wouldn't know how to express my sympathy to Turai! She lost her husband-president, a position that is the quest of every politician. She was dogged all through the travail because she was intoxicated with the self-acclaimed First Lady position.

While Yar'Adua was buried in his home state of Katsina on May 6, my heart-felt sympathy is that the once First Lady has automatically lost her stool and will be vacating the presidential lodge in Abuja, where she once lived with her dead husband in the entourage of some perceived cabals.

But in all, I think Turai should be grateful to the ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo who single-handed picked Yar'Adua to contest the 2007 elections which saw him as the president Federal Republic of Nigeria from that year till May 5 2010.

Turai should be grateful to Obasanjo for Obasanjo's gesture in making sure that her husband was president. If not, one wonders from where the recalcitrant Turai would have gotten the money to take care of her husband for the period of about six months he battled with the acute acute pericarditis, on life support mechine.

Many Nigerians believed that Turai's husband was a good man, but the actions of the insulting Turai when her husband was on medical treatment in Saudi Arabia nearly rubbished the hard earned family name of Yar'Adua. A lot of Nigerians who voyaged to Saudi Arabia were not allowed to see Yar'Adua; courtesy of Madam Turai. Even that there is a nationwide televising of the interment of the deceased president; many Nigerians are yet to believe that he is dead. This is because of the politics so far with the late president.

While his soul is resting perhaps in peace, many Nigerians are of the opinion that he died long time, that the cabals just feel like announcing his death on the said date. Others who see this as sad might as well see it as the end of Turai, politically, because of her odious role so far against the Nigerian Government officials when her husband was in coma.

Yar'Adua has been described as a good man caught up in a bad system, but my prayer now is that while his soul may rest in eternal bliss, may the Lord of the Muslims grant his family, but especially Turai, the courage to bear the untimely event. Amen!

She knew his end was near, but she refused to allow the lying dog sleep. Umaru, RIP, now the cabals will stop feeding us with lies, disdainful ones. The cabals exhibited greed for power orchestrated by Turai, who was excessively greedy and ambitious not allow Yar'Adua live his last days on earth in dignity.

Nature has exposed Turia's 'clerics' and 'Imams' who told Nigerians that they saw Yar'Adua and that he was better and walking the gardens and even shook the hands with them. Now, would Turai come up with a new trick to remain in the Aso villa? Would Turai finally rest? As Jonathan becomes the President, the battle for VP, Turai might exhibit her heinous expertise?

Turai didn't know that Yar'Adua could have been alive today if not for the cabals 'wisdom' by bringing him back to Nigeria just to proof a 'point', when he could have been overseas taking treatment. Can they apologise to Nigerians and to the late Yar'Adua despite being used and abused by his power hungry wife?

It was a long fought battle. They didn't allow him die in peace. Innali Lahiwa inna ilaehi Rajiun: From God we came and certainly to Him alone is our return. I pray Umar Yar'Adua finds rest now with His maker, because he faced torment in the hand of cabals in Aso Rock.
