Police rescue another child in chains

By The Citizen

Barely one week after the Ogun State Police Command rescued nine-year old Korede Taiwo from the chains of his father, a 10-year old girl chained by her aunt has also been rescued in Abeokuta.

The girl, Promise Udeh, was rescued at Adigbe area of Abeokuta, after neighbours living close to the building where she was chained alerted the police.

The acting Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the girl was chained by her aunt, Chiamaka Okafor, who accused her of stealing N4,000.

According to the Police spokesman, Chiamaka is currently on the run but her husband, Sunday Okafor, has been arrested.

It would be recalled that Korede was rescued last Friday by security operatives in a church where he was chained by his father after a tip-off.

His father fled after the raid by security operatives but was later arrested at his church, Key of Joy Celestial Church, Ajibawo near Atan, Ota, Ogun State with the help of members of the church.

The wife of the state governor, Yeye Olufunsho Amosun has adopted the boy as her own. She promised to fund his education up to the university.

He is currently undergoing treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Idi Aba, Abeokuta.
