PDP National Convention holds August 17

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will hold another national convention on August 17  to elect its national officers.

Stakeholders of the party, at an expanded caucus meeting in Abuja on Thursday, resolved to hold the convention on the said date.

The meeting, which was convened by the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee, was the first since it was set up in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on May 21.

Though Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, who has continued to lay claim to the PDP chairmanship did not attend the meeting, Senator Buruji Kashamu, who is believed to be his major backbone, was present.

This is as Makarfi has assured that his committee is not intended to be a sit-tight one and would vacate office at the end of the 90 days period given to it at the national convention.

Apart from Kashamu, five governors, including the two governors from North East where Sheriff comes from, also attended the meeting, which was presided over by Makarfi. - New Telegraph.
