The National Association of Resident Doctors of Nigeria calls for the suspension of the ongoing nationwide strike.

This was stated by the president of the association, Dr. Muhammad Adamu Askira at a briefing with press men in Abuja.

He said the decision was taken after an an extra ordinary national executive council meeting of the association held on the 24th of June. Work should resume on 27th June 2016 , with the view to relieve the impact of the strike on average Nigerians

NARD Had earlier declared an indefinite nation wide strike in June due to unmet demands.

The NARD President stated the following resolutions reached at the meeting

" that in view of the genuine intervention of the honourable speaker, Yakubu Dogara, and other stake holders, NARD hereby suspend the ongoing nationwide indefinite strike action so as to enable the government implement the agreements reached within the agreed time frame(on or before 14 July 2016 ) "

" NARD will review the progress of the intervention, at the July NEC scheduled from 25- 30 of July in Keffi for further appropriate action."

Muhammad Askira faulted the idea of replacement especially at a time when the health sector needs no fewer than 235 resident doctors in the country.

He therefore called on all members to remain calm as they resume their normal duties , while also assuring that no one would be victimized for taking part in the struggle.
