The Federal Government has been urged to declare a state of emergency in the northeast region to rescue numerous internally displaced persons (IDPs) from starvation.

The Executive Director of the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), Dr. Yunusa Zakariya’u, said in Kano today that thousands of the IDPs residing in some communities around Danbua, Kukawa, Biu were currently ‘dying of hunger’, as humanitarian services were not reaching them.

Zakariya’u urged the National Assembly to be quick in passing the Northeast Development Commission Bill to facilitate the rebuilding of the region, and urged the Federal Government to extend its humanitarian services to the rural areas across Maiduguri, Yobe and Adamawa states.
