Commissioner for Peace and Security meets the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Relations of the Kingdom of Lesotho

The African Union (AU) Commissioner for Peace and Security, Ambassador Smaïl Chergui met Hon Tlohang Sekhamane, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations of the Kingdom of Lesotho on the marginsthe Italy-Africa Ministerial Conference in Rome, Italy on 19 May 2016.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the two to exchange views on the situation in the Kingdom of Lesotho andmatters of common interest concerning peace, security, development and cooperation in Africa.

The Honorable Minister briefed the Commissioner on recent developments in Lesotho including on the recentattack on Professor Mafa Sejanamane, senior academic and former Acting Vice Chancellor at the National University of Lesotho. He expressed his strong concern regarding the incident and reassured the Commissioner that the situation in the country was stable.

The Commissioner welcomed the reassurances from the Honorable Minister and reiterated the AU's full support to the Southern African Development Community (SADC) peace and stabilization efforts in the Kingdom of Lesotho. He further emphasized theAU' readiness to support the Government and people of the Kingdom of Lesotho.
