Okupe Prostrates, Kisses Obasanjo In Search Of Forgiveness

BEVERLY HILLS, May 12, (THEWILL) – Senior Special Assistant to then President Goodluck Jonathan on Media and Publicity, Dr. Doyin Okupe has revealed that his relationship with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who was also his former boss, turned sour after he began working for Jonathan.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, chieftain added that he kissed and prostrated before Obasanjo when he visited the former President last Sunday for a reconciliation meeting.

Okupe, who made this known in a post on his Facebook page on Friday, said the elder statesman scolded him before pardoning him, after which they embraced.

He wrote, “Last Sunday, in the company of some friends I met with Baba Obasanjo principally to try and settle and resolve the misunderstanding that has existed between baba and I since I joined the Jonathan administration.

“Vintage baba, he descended on me heavily and vented his anger copiously. I prostrated and held his feet as a well trained Yoruba man and pleaded earnestly for his forgiveness, occasionally given short explanations for areas I considered my actions were misunderstood.

“Also typical of baba, ever willing to forgive a repentant son, we embraced; I even kissed him as a loving son.

“Politics sometimes is such a bad business, you hurt your friends and even benefactors, but all is well that ends well.”

It will be recalled that ahead of the 2015 presidential election, Obasanjo had openly criticised Jonathan. Apparently carrying out the requirement of his job as one of Jonathan's handlers, Okupe responded by publicly condemning Obasanjo.
