Suicide Bombing At Borno Secretariat Kills Two, Injures 19 Others

SAN FRANCISCO, May 12, (THEWILL) – A suicide bombing which occurred at the Borno State Secretariat on Thursday has claimed two lives and caused injuries to 19 others in Maiduguri, the state capital.

The information officer of Borno State Emergency Management Agency, BOSEMA, Abdullahi Umar, who spoke to THEWILL on phone, stated that the incident occurred at about 12pm at the State Secretariat at the Post Office area, which is in the centre of the troubled town.

Umar said the suicide bomber pretended to be one of the staff of the Borno State Government, who has been ordered to present themselves for staff verification embarked upon to fish out ghost workers.

He said the suicide bomber had a file on him to show to the security at the gate to the Secretariat that he was a staff. But, he was however turned back by the security when he could not present a staff identification card.

After going some metres from the security post, the suicide bomber was said to have detonated the bomb strapped on him, which led to his immediate death and claimed the life of another person.

Umar stated that the explosion equally caused injuries to 19 other persons who were rushed to the Borno State Hospital, Maiduguri for treatment, adding that the corpses of the two deceased were deposited at the morgue of the hospital.
