Buhari Might Not Be Grounded In Economy, Foreign Affairs, But… – Obasanjo

BEVERLY HILLS, May 10, (THEWILL) – Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has observed that while President Muhammadu Buhari may not be grounded in economy and foreign affairs, he is faring well as regards the fight against corruption and taking the war to Boko Haram terrorists.

Stressing that he knows a bit of the President, who he said has not deviated from what he (Obasanjo) knows him for, the ex-President pointed out that his present successor is not perfect as no leader is perfect. He however expressed optimism that Buhari will do well as President of the country.

Obasanjo made this assertion on Monday while fielding questions from the audience as the Guest Speaker at the 3rd Covenant University International Conference on African Development, ICAD 2016 on whether there is hope for the country under the leadership of President Buhari.

He responded by saying: “Buhari served under me and I know him a little bit. He hasn't deviated from what I knew him for. Actually he is not a perfect man; indeed no leader can be perfect.

“Buhari might not be grounded in both the economy and foreign affairs, he is doing well in fighting Boko Haram and in his anti-corruption crusade. I am very optimistic as far as Nigeria is concerned because we have somebody that will do it well as president,” he said.

The former President, who disagreed with those who think the present administration is fighting corruption at the expense of other things, asked: “are we fighting corruption effectively and are we getting the desired result?”

He disclosed that the pioneer chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Malam Nuhu Ribadu was chased out of office because he was fighting corruption effectively.
