Group Seeks FG Intervention On Federal Poly Mubi Industrial Crisis

By Tom Garba, Yola

The concerned members of the Federal Polytechnics Mubi community in Adamawa state have on the Minister of Education to wade into the lingering crisis between the Academic Staff Union of Politechnics (ASUP) Mubi Chapter and the management of the institution over CONTISS 15.

Mr Inusa Yerima, leader of the group made the call on Friday while addressing newsmen in Yola.

The Concern members of the Federal Polytechnic Mubi Community have is membership drawned from academic staff, non-academic staff and students in the federal polytechnic Mubi.

He noted that CONTISS 15 has become an instrument of confrontation by some mischievous ASUP members.

He recalled that the ASUP national leadership in their last meeting issued a statement that the issue of CONTISS 15 was a national issue.

He also noted that the said CONTISS 15 is for both Collages of Education and polytechnic, and wonder why other polytechnics and collages of educations have not threatened to embark on strike, and why the ASUP Mubi chapter has taken the mater so personal.

He said that the threat to strike by the ASUP Mubi chapter is a clear act of sabotage and indiscipline.

Mr Yerima therefore called on the Federal Ministry of Education to re-educate ASUP on the issue of CONTISS 15 to avoid unnecessary threats to industrial harmony.

He also reminded the Federal Ministry of Education that the Federal polytechnic Mubi had in the past suffered 13 months strike from ASUP and 10 months non-academic activities due to the invasion of Boko Haram insurgency.

``It is quite worrisome that the institution which had suffered absence of academic activities in the recent past will be thrown into another strike due to the activities of some factional union members.

``It is quite disturbing why the national leadership of ASUP will direct the Mohammed Kabiru faction of ASUP to declare strike when it is on record that the aggrieved faction in the same institution had petition the activities of the Kabiru lead faction since in February but the ASUP national rather than addressing the issue has continue to support one faction against the other.

``We wish to draw the attention of the Federal Ministry on this salient issue to address the matter before it goes out of hand.

``We equally call on Rectors of Federal Polytechnics to come together and address this lawlessness and indiscipline.

``We also ask the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS)to come to the aid of their fellow students in the Federal Polytechnic Mubi, before their academic ambitions will be truncated.
