San, Serving Senator Grilled By Efcc Over Deziani’s $115m

SAN FRANCISCO, May 05, (THEWILL) – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has invited and interrogated Mr. Mike Ahamba, SAN, and Senator Chris Anyanwu for reportedly receiving N700 million from Fidelity Bank Plc on the directive of former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Deziani Madueke. The cash was collected last year from the branch at Ikenebu Layout, Owerri, Imo State during the last presidential election.

According to a news report in the Vanguard, which quoted an EFCC source, the politicians were grilled at the Enugu office of the EFCC on Thursday as part of investigations into how the alleged slush funds were distributed to senior election commission officials and some senior political leaders allegedly to influence the elections.

The report said they were granted administrative bail and are expected to return at a later date for further interrogation.

THEWILL can report that the EFCC is conducting a wide investigation into the source of the funds and how the bank handled them on behalf of Deziani. It had earlier arrested and quizzed senior electoral officers who collected millions of naira from various branches of the bank a few days to the presidential election.
