MEGA PARTY SENDS APPLICATION TO INEC

By NBF NEWS

Indications emerged on Wednesday that promoters of the Mega Summit Movement has applied to the Independent National Electoral Commission to enable it to transform into a political party.

The movement, by its application, will transform into the Social Democratic Mega Party and has vowed to win the 2011 presidential election.

At the meeting of the group in Abuja on Wednesday, the SDMP also named Prof. Pat Utomi as its interim national chairman.

The meeting was attended by several renowned politicians, which included a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation and erstwhile finance minister, Chief Olu Falae; Chief Ayo Adebanjo; Chief Supo Shonibare; Alhaji Adegboyega Kaka; Senator Suleiman Salau; Dr. Dapo Oyewunmi; and Chief Robson Momoh, who stood in for elder statesman, Chief Anthony Enahoro.

The group alleged that the Peoples Democratic Party-led Federal Government had impoverished Nigerians and should be rejected in subsequent elections.

Utomi said, 'We are determined to create a new movement that will result in a political party that can pull Nigeria out of bondage. We are committed to ending this season of misgovernance that has left Nigeria in a crippled state.

'Uncompromising in our desire, we are determined to open the gate of partisan politics to the Nigerian people, broadly. Political parties should not be cabals, political parties should certainly not be exclusive, they should be open to all.'
