Governors’ Meeting Ends In Stalemate

BEVERLY HILLS, April 21, (THEWILL) – The meeting of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), held from Wednesday night into the wee hours of Thursday, to discuss the state of the nation’s economy ended in a stalemate.

THEWILL gathered that the Governors could not arrive at any conclusion on matters on the economy at the meeting that which held at the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

According to the Chairman of the NGF, Abdulazeez Yari, who spoke to State House correspondents on behalf of others, the forum would reconvene next Thursday.

The Zamfara State Governor, however declined to give details of the discussion by the Forum until after the meeting next week.

“We met as Nigeria Governors’ Forum. At the executive session, we discussed a lot of economic issues. The meeting is not yet concluded. We are continuing next week. Therefore, by next week Thursday, we will be able to give you a recap of what was discussed and the agreement reached,” he said.

“In the meantime, you will bear with us until next week. We are discussing critically about the nation’s economy as a follow-up to our last retreat. By next week Thursday, we will be able to give you the details of our meeting and further actions.”

Governors in attendance at the meeting, which lasted about four hours, included those of Kaduna, Ondo, Rivers, Osun, Cross River, Sokoto, Ebonyi, Edo, Kwara, Nasarawa and Delta, among others.

Some Deputy Governors including those of Ogun, Oyo and Anambra also attended.
