Presentation of Credentials of Singapore’s Ambassador to the Republic of Zimbabwe

The Government has appointed Mr Chua Thai Keong as Singapore's next Ambassador to the Republic of Zimbabwe, resident in Pretoria, South Africa. He is concurrently Singapore's High Commissioner to the Republic of South Africa, the Republic of Namibia and the Kingdom of Swaziland. Mr Chua will present his credentials to the President of Zimbabwe, His Excellency Robert Gabriel Mugabe on 14 April 2016.

Mr Chua joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1986. He was Singapore's Non-Resident Ambassador to Chile from April 2014 to May 2015 and Ambassador to the Republic of Korea (with concurrent accreditation to Mongolia) from September 2006 to December 2010. Prior to this, Mr Chua was Director (Northeast Asia) at the Ministry from August 2002 to April 2006.

Mr Chua graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) in 1985 from the National University of Singapore. He also obtained a Master of International Affairs from Columbia University, New York, in 1992 and a Bachelor of Economics (Hons) from the University of London in 1998.

BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY

Mr Chua Thai Keong is currently Singapore High Commissioner to the Republic of South Africa (with concurrent accreditation to Namibia and Swaziland) since June 2015.

Mr Chua graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) in 1985 from the National University of Singapore on a PSC Local Merit Scholarship. He also obtained a Master of International Affairs from Columbia University, New York, in 1992 and also a Bachelor of Economics (Hons) from the University of London in 1998.

Mr Chua joined the Foreign Service in 1986. In the Ministry's Headquarters, Mr Chua covered several portfolios including Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia and Oceania. He was Special Assistant to the Foreign Minister from April 1997 to October 1997. Mr Chua was Director of the Northeast Asia Directorate from August 2002 to April 2006.

Mr Chua had served in Bangkok (November 1992 to March 1996) and Tokyo (August 1998 to August 2002). He was Ambassador to the Republic of Korea (with concurrent accreditation to Mongolia) from September 2006 to December 2010 and Ambassador to Chile (resident in Singapore) from April 2014 to May 2015.
