Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote is heading a 41-man panel to raise funds for hundreds of traders in his home state, who lost goods and cash valued at overN2 trillion in recent fire disasters.

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, inaugurating Dangote’s committee, appealed for assistance for the victims of recent market fire outbreaks in Kano metropolis.

He urged the committee to identify and reach out to state and federal governments, individuals and international organizations for donations. He also urged them to organize and facilitate launching of appeal funds.

The governor mandated members of the committee, market leaders and appropriate government agencies to ascertain the actual number of victims.

He urged them to liaise with the Ministry of Finance to open a dedicated account for the fund.

The committee was given six weeks to submit its report. Dangote gave the assurance that the members would carry out the assignment with utmost diligence.

He thanked the government for the opportunity to serve and promised that the committee would ensure that it delivered on its mandate.

Other members of the committee are Alhaji Dahiru Mangal and Tajudeen Dantata among others.

Alhaji Ibrahim Kankarofi will serve as Secretary of the committee.
