BEVERLY HILLS, April 02, (THEWILL) – Nigerians from all walks of life this weekend arrived Agbor, a modest town in Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State to pay their last respect to Madam Alice Emefiele, 94, the deceased mother of the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele.

The 2-day funeral rites which ended on Saturday with her interment at her residence following a Christian wake-keeping and Church service, was attended by former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Engr. Babachir Lawal, who represented President Muhammadu Buhari, who is in the United States attending the Nuclear Summit.

Governors of Delta, Edo, Anambra, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Oyo, Osun, Benue, Plateau; Ministers of Information, Budget and National Planning, Petroleum and others; members of the National Assembly, the military, as well as top bank executives, the clergy, businessmen Aliko Dangote, Femi Otedola, Nduka Obaigbena and Abdul Samad Rabiu all attended the modest ceremony.

In his sermon, Primate of the Anglican Communion, Most Revd. Nicholas Okoh, urged Nigerians to promote peace and unity, stressing that it is a key path to developing communities and the nation.

While observing that it is not the longevity of life that matters but our contributions to the development of the society, the cleric said the deceased Emefiele impacted positively on her community.

Speaking briefly and expressing the family's appreciation to all those that attended to support the family, CBN Governor Emefiele said their deceased mother raised them to fear God and taught them that hard work pays in life.

“I enjoin mothers to bring up their children in the way of God, correct them when they are wrong and teach them to be hard working in life, they will turn out to be good citizens of the society”, he asserted.
