Group Demands Sack of Dr. Kachukwu Over Corruption In NNPC

By Senior Cadre

The Civil Society Coalition for Change is deeply worried about the continued dispaly of incompetence and most alarming, the level corruption that has characerised the activities of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC under the headship of Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachukwu, who doubles as the Group Managing Director of the Corporation and the Minister of States for Petroleum.

Despite its inability to meet up with several of its statutory obligations to Nigerians, which has imposed an untold hardship due to the scarcity of petroleum products, the corporation has also refused to desist from the practices of the past which made it an abode of monumental corruption reek of arbitrary mismanagement of the Commonwealth of the people of Nigeria.

We are disturbed that despite the collective determination of Nigerians to ensure accountability in governance as inherent in the anti corruption agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari and his insistence on the full implementation of the Treasury Single Account TSA, recent revelation shows that, the NNPC illegaly withheld over N824 billion out of N1.24 trillion revenues realised from crude oil sales in the second half of 2015 and months after,in the year 2016.

The illegally withheld revenues represented about 66 per cent of the total revenue earnings from Nigeria’s regular crude oil exports for the period, and from domestic crude oil sales, with oil sold from the corporation’s upstream subsidiary, the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company, NPDC oil fields.

As Nigerians and having gone through the latest revelations and other sundry issues that have characterised the management of the nation's oil sector since the advent of the leaderdship of Mr. Ibe Kachukwu, as regards the way the affairs of the sector has been handled, we are demanding that President Buhari sack Mr. Ibe Kachukwu and all key players in the mismanagement of the NNPC, as a precondition for a probe and prosecution of those found to have sabotaged the anti corruption effort of the incumbent administration.

We also call on the National Assembly, to prevail on President Buhari to ensure the management of the NNPC under Mr. Kachukwu and agencies under it, temporarily vacate their offices in the interest of transparent investigation.

It has become pertinent for us as a nation to adopt international best practices in dealing with corruption since the current administreation has proven that it is ready to embrace international trends in running the affairs of the country in a decent and corrupt free manner,in the overwhelming interest of her citizens.

Therefore, with his abysmal performance in office since he took over as the Group Managing Director of the NNPC and later as the Minister of

States for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachukwu have proven to be unfit and undeserving of these positions and should not be allowed to pollute the integrity of the current administeation with his continued reign of incompetence and corruption in the NNPC.

Allowing Mr. Kachukwu to continue functioning in these positions will only broaden his circle of perpetual corruption and lack of transparency. Hence, we are demanding that Mr Ibe Kachukwu be sacked immediately as the GMD of NNPC and Minister of States for Petroleum, before he leads the corporation further into another season of monumental corruption.

Meanwhile, the coalition shall not hesitate to employ every legitimate means to drive home our demands as we continue to mobilize Nigerians to join the ongoing crusade to salvage our nation from the menace of corruption, by giving total support to the unrelenting effort of President Muhammadu Buhari and showing every saboteurs of these efforts, the way out of leadership positions in our country.
