Representatives of nearly 50 American firms met with Egyptian government officials and private sector leaders on March 29 to discuss Egypt's global economic competitiveness and to explore opportunities for expanding their operations in Egypt.

The first ever Egyptian Competitiveness Forum was organized by the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU) with support from the U.S. Embassy in Cairo.

“As American firms and multinational corporations explore opportunities in Egypt,” BCIU President Peter Tichansky said, “the Forum facilitated discussion with Egypt's leadership about fostering an environment conducive to entrepreneurship and innovation in order to fully capitalize on Egypt's unique position in the region.”

Underlining the U.S. Government's support for a stable and prosperous Egypt, U.S. Ambassador Stephen Beecroft noted: “This Forum is a testament to the interest in increasing collaboration between Egypt and the United States. I am pleased that so many U.S. firms are interested in competing for opportunities to expand their presence in Egypt.”

The Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU) is a nonpartisan, U.S.-based organization that works to expand international trade and commerce. It does this by helping its member companies engage internationally and by facilitating mutually beneficial relationships between business and government leaders worldwide. The Foreign Commercial Service of the U.S. Department of Commerce was instrumental in facilitating the BCIU Egyptian Competitiveness Forum.
