SAN FRANCISCO, March 24, (THEWILL) – CSKA Moscow star, Ahmed Musa, on Thursday, has announced Chelsea midfielder, John Mikel Obi, as the new captain of the Super Eagles.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, for the AFCON qualifier against Egypt, the Super Eagles winger admitted that he did not deserve to be named skipper of the team under former coach Sunday Oliseh.

Musa was picked ahead of players like Elderson Echiejile, Efe Ambrose and Mikel Obi under Oliseh when Vincent Enyeama was axed by the former coach while Ogenyi Onazi was named vice-captain.

“I'm no longer the Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi is the Super Eagles captain,” Musa declared.

“I didn't deserve the skipper's arm band when I was named captain of the team. Mikel is now the new Eagles skipper.

“We have to move on from the past and focus on the Egypt match, which we have to win on Friday.

“He's a senior player to me and more deserving of the arm band.

“The focus is to beat Egypt to boost our chances of qualifying for the Nations Cup in Gabon.”

Mikel also described Musa as a “wonderful professional” adding that “It takes a man to come out to do what he did,” he said.

Reports indicate that Musa was however named vice captain to Mikel.

Eagles are to play the first leg against Egypt on Friday, March 25 at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna with the return leg in Alexandria four days later.
