Crescent Varsity Canvasses For National Development—As Alumnus Bags Another Award

Crescent University, Abeokuta, has identified religion and national development as Siamese twins capable of making human life a success, at its tenth founder's day lecture.

The Guest lecturer, Prof. Oloyede Abdulrahmon of the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies, University of Ibadan, gave this clue in his lecture tagged " Religion and National Development: Issues and Perspectives", to commemorate the 82nd birthday of Crescent University Proprietor,Judge Bola Ajibola which coincided with the 10th Founder's Day of the institution.Crescent University,Abeokuta was founded in June 2005 as a citadel of moral and academic excellence.

Prof. Oloyede advocated that " if and when religion runs at cross purposes with development and progress, it must be that the leadership and citizenry have strayed from their paths of rectitude.

The don hypothetised that the summary of the concept of leadership enunciated by Islam to drive development was subsumed by the shepherd's theory of Prophet Muhammad e " that every one of you is a shepherd and shall be accountable for his shepherdship".

In a related development, the Crescent University Parents' Forum has expressed its heartfelt congratulations to the Proprietor,Judge Bola Ajibola on Thomson Reuters Foundation's journalism award by one of the institution's alumni, Adeola Yusuf for the 2016 edition of the exclusive Wealth of Nations ( WON) scheme on reporting Illicit Trade in Africa.

Yusuf recently won the Nigeria Media Merit Award (NMMA) prize for energy reporter of the year, 2015. He is one of the two journalists nominated from the entire Nigeria for the scheme.

Expressing delight at the news, Judge Ajibola said he was not surprised that another laurel had come from Yusuf who was one of Crescent University products that led the University of Lagos entrance examination at master's level two years ago.

Judge Ajibola enthused that " we are so delighted that our sweats are now yielding fruits, our fruits are the products of Crescent University who are now doing well both in employment and further studies not only in Nigeria but in European and American countries".

He added that " some of these products made our firsts-class here and still went abroad to clinch distinction at master's level," adding that Crescent University products have also excelled the master's class in University of Ilorin Mass Communication.

Judge Ajibola challenged anyone interested to verify those records independently.
