SAN FRANCISCO, March 21, (THEWILL) – A Federal High Court in Yenagoa has on Monday granted bail to Yunusa Dahiru, alias Yellow, alleged abductor of Ese Oruru, for the sum of N3 million with two sureties.

‎The judge declared that the sureties must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court while one must be a civil servant of not less than level 12 while the other must be a title holder.‎

The judge further declared that the sureties must provide tax clearance for the past three years.

‎In his ruling on the bail application by the defence, the trial judge, Justice H. A. Nganjiwa, added that the suspect be remanded in prison custody pending the perfection of his bail conditions.

Dahiru is on trial for abduction, kidnapping, unlawful carnal knowledge and sexual exploitation of a minor, Ese Oruru, by the Police.

Dahiru, aka Yellow had pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against him on March 8.

The Judge adjourned the case till April 17, 2016 for ruling on the application of the prosecution to obtain the evidence of Oruru in secret.‎

The Prosecuting Counsel, Mr J.O. Anate, had opposed the bail application but noted that the reasons given by the judge for the decision were credible.

Counsel to Dahiru, Mr Kayode Olaoshebikan was grateful to the court for granting bail to his client and pledged to meet the bail conditions.

Speaking after the court session, Olaosebikan opined that the ruling in favour of his client's bail application was justified as the offence for which his client was tried was a bail able.
