Statement Attributable to the Spokesman for the Secretary-General on the suicide attacks in Maiduguri, Borno State

The Secretary-General condemns the double suicide attacks on 16 March in Maiduguri in Borno State by suspected Boko Haram elements, which left 20 people dead and many injured.

He extends his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and wishes a speedy recovery to those injured. The Secretary-General also reiterates the UN's support to the Nigerian Government in its fight against terrorism, which should be grounded in international humanitarian, human rights and refugee law.
