Enugu State govt moves to upgrade IMT to degree-awarding institution

The Enugu State Government says plans are underway to upgrade the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, to a degree-awarding institution.

The Enugu State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Godwin Udeuhele,

disclosed this during a press briefing following the State Government's 5th Executive Council meeting held on 16th March, 2016, at the Exco Hall, Government House, Enugu.

Dr Udeuhele explained that government plans had become necessary and

that  Hon. Commissioner for Education had been directed to take the necessary steps towards getting its plans to that effect actualized.

Still on education, the Exco during its meeting, also approved the re-introduction of inter-schools Essay/Quiz Competitions for all categories of schools in the state to imbibe and encourage the learning and reading habits, on the pupils and students alike with prizes to include scholarships for the school and students who came tops in the fashioned programmes.

The Exco spokesperson, Dr. Udeuhele noted that the Commissioner for Education and his Youths and Sports counterparts have been directed to brainstorm with stakeholders in favour of the immediate take-off of the programme.

Commissioner Udeuhele told the press that government had in the course of the meeting, approved through its Ministry of Finance and Economic Development Enugu, to secure a bond of Fifteen billion naira (N15,000,000,000) from the capital market through UBA Plc/UBA CAPITAL

at a prevailing market price ranges between 13.5% to 15.15% for 7 years duration of the bond while the bridging loan facility by the

bank is at 12% interest rate per annum and which would be on the amount utilized.

According to Dr. Udeuhele, the Exco also approved the reconstruction and  rehabilitation of Ibuzor Street, Independence Layout, Enugu to curtail the indiscriminate flooding in the street any time it rains and it attempts to cut it off from the rest of Enugu metropolis,

adding that, the contract has been awarded to Rojel Nigeria Limited at the sum of Twenty-seven Million, Six hundred and eighty-one thousand, four hundred and eighty-six naira (N27,681,486.)

He further explained that the Exco in its magnanimity had equally approved the award of contract for the supply and installation of automatic changeover street lights, security flood lights and 100,000

liters surface water reserviour at a total sum of N138,578,780.00 (One

hundred and thirty-eight million, five hundred and seventy-eight

thousand, seven hundred and eighty naira to O.J. Quarism International Limited to ensure adequate security and clean environment at the Government House and augment the ongoing efforts in the reconstruction of the New Lion Building.

He charged the people of Enugu State to support the laudable programmes of government being put in place to better their lots.
