The Delta Police Command has issued a security alert on the activities of a criminal syndicate led by a lady and a man on clutches.

The Command spokesperson, DSP Celestina Kalu said in a statement Tuesday in Asaba that the syndicate specialised in robbing commuter buses on the highways.

The statement said that police investigation revealed that the syndicate had in July, 2015, chattered a bus driver from Ilorin to Agbor and robbed the driver of his vehicle.

According to the statement, the same syndicate last Thursday in Effurun, near Warri, chattered a bus to Igbodo to ferry some pastors back to Effurun, where other members of the gang waylaid and attack the driver.

'On March 3, 2016, the same lady came to Agowin International Transport Company, along PTI road in Effurun to request for a bus to pick some pastors from Igbodo back to Effurun.

'On reaching Igbodo, the lady asked the driver to go to Umunede that she wants to pick another person there, but on getting to Umunede, the driver was attacked and beaten up by members of the gang who had laid ambush.

'The modus operandi of the syndicate is to chatter commuter buses in any part of the region under the guise of coming to Agbor in Delta state to pack their belongings, only to end up robbing the unsuspecting driver/passengers,' it said.

However, the statement advised transport companies, especially those operating in the South-South, South-East and South-West to be vigilant of the syndicate, which is led by a lady and a man on clutches.

'Members of the public are hereby advised to be on the watch out of these criminal elements and similar criminal syndicate, and report them to the nearest police station or security agency, if seen,' it added. – The News.
