Five Dead Bodies Recovered From Building Collapse In Lekki

BEVERLY HILLS, March 08, (THEWILL) – A five-storey building located at Lekki Phase 1, Lagos State, collapsed in the early hours of Tuesday resulting in the death of at least five people with many others trapped beneath the rubble.

Six persons have been rescued alive with five bodies recovered dead from the building said to be part of a house being constructed by Lekki Garden Estate within Ikate Elegushi area, along Lekki-Epe Expressway.

The General Manager of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, LASEMA, Mr Michael Akindele, while confirming the report, said the incident occurred around 5am, during the heavy rainfall.

“So far, we have recovered five dead bodies and six persons have also been rescued. Though, we cannot ascertain the total number of trapped people, but rescue operation is still on-going.” Akindele told Vanguard.

Meanwhile, officials of the National Emergency Management Authority, NEMA, LASEMA, Lagos State Fire Service, Rapid Response Squad, RRS, Civil Defence Corp, Merchant Navy and the state police command are currently carrying out rescue operations at the site.
