Afolabi Olalakan: Making Lagos State As A Centre Of Grassroots Sports

Not long ago, I met one distinguished grassroots sports analyst and Chief Executive Officer of Afo Football Association (AFA), Mr. Afolabi Onanaike Olalakan (Afo Guarantor), who has been organizing grassroots competition for the past 25 years in Lagos State and beyond. Venturing into grassroots sports business has become his passion making people to develop their talents at sports in Nigeria especially youths in particular.

The mission of this noble grassroots sports organization to promote past leaders that have positively contributed to the developmental growth of sports in Nigeria. The late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Abiola,the business mogul and renowned Nigerian politician who devoted his resources into grassroots sports and made many youths to become world-class players would be honoured.

Afo Football Association in conjunction with Lagos State Government has indicated full interest to make this 2016 Under 20 ,1st late Moshood Kashimawo Abiola championships to come to pass through the veritable support of the Lagos state governor,Mr. Ambode Akinwunmi.Afo Football Association motto is ‘We lead others to follow’.

The high point of this championship is to discover young football players that would become Super Eagles squad and international club players. First winner will go with giant trophy and friendly match in Dubai and second winner goes with cash prize with a trophy. This event will commence from May 13 to June 12, 2016, where the opening ceremony and finals will take place at the Campus Mini Stadium Ajele, playground.Time:8am till 4pm daily. Registration is free and maximum security is fully guaranteed. Every football associations under 20 in Nigeria are free to register and participate in this championship fiesta.
