Enugu govt earmarks N100m for LG devt

The Enugu State Government says it has ear-marked the total sum of N100m to execute and develop some of the human-oriented projects in each of the 17 local government council areas of the state.

The State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, disclosed this during his maiden visit to Akwuke, Enugu South Local Government Council as a guest of honour at the wedding ceremony of the Deputy Leader of Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Mary Onyinye Ugwu and the unscheduled inspection of the dilapidated Akwuke Health Centre.

Addressing the people of the area shortly after inspecting the health centre, Governor Ugwuanyi said that the implementation of his administration's year 2016 budget would commence in five (5) months time.

He urged the people of the area to identify their area of needs for prompt government actions.

In his words, 'it is the intention of state government to extend democracy dividends to all nooks and crannies of the state despite the economic meltdown in the country. To make this a reality, we expect your cooperation, support and prayer for this government to succeed'.

He reminded the people that they have vital roles to play by preserving and protecting government installations and equipment sited at their area and to expose hoodlums and vandals for arrest and prosecution.

Earlier in a remark, the chairman of the event and the former Commissioner for Works, Abia State, Hon. Ejike Uche Edozie, observed that Governor Ugwuanyi's laudable projects to the people of Enugu State is a challenge to other governors of the south-east states and Nigeria in general, urging him not to relent.

Hon. Uche explained that the marriage between Abia State son, Prince Kinsley Ejike and Enugu state daughter, Hon. Onyinye Ugwu has renewed the age long relationship between the two sister states. He urged the couple to embrace love, understanding and tolerance for a happy home.

In their joint address, the National President, Akwuke Town Union, Hon. J.C Ewoh, and the President General, Akwuke Uwani Town Union, Chief Francis Ogbodo, thanked the governor for his human oriented policies put in place in the state in the areas of prompt payment of workers' salaries, aggressive diversification of the state's economy among other laudable projects of the governor, describing him a symbolic oasis who has come to put smile on the faces of Enugu indigenes.

They equally enumerated their challenges which include; lack of access road to the area, Fulani herdsmen menace, lack of functional health centre as well as unemployment of their teeming youths, urging the governor to appoint their sons and daughters to positions of authority in the state.

Speaking during the inspection of the community Health Centre, the principal, Community Health Extension Workers, Mrs. Ugwu Mary Nneka told Enugu governor that the bad condition of the health centre was as a result of the wind storm that blew up the roof of the building, exposing it and the facilities to rain and sunshine.

In their responses, the celebrants, Prince Kingsley and Hon. Princess Mary Uwanuakwa appreciated God for the day and thanked their numerous guests, especially Governor Ugwuanyi for finding time to honour their invitation, even as they wished everyone journey mercies to their destinations.

The wedding which was observed with a holy mass officiated by Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev. Calistus Onaga at St. Mary Catholic Parish, Akwuke, and graced by the deputy governor of the state, Hon. Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo, Former minister of power, Prof. Bath Nnaji, member, representing Nkanu East and West constituency in the federal House of Representative, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ujam, State House of Assembly members, clerics, royal fathers among other top government functionaries.
