Ogoni Peace Conference Holds In Bori

By Ogeco Ogeco

Ogoni moves to bring peace and security to the homeland. To this end, an emergency general assembly conference holds in Bori on Saturday, the 27th of February, 2017. The assembly is aimed at reviewing recent bloody clashes in the area and chart a new path to prevent re-occurrence.

President of the Ogoni Central Indigenous Authority, OCIA, Dr. Goodluck Diigbo said it is the collective responsibility of the Ogoni people to bring peace and security to the homeland.

In a statement on his behalf, signed by the youth administrator, Hon. Beabu Ndorbu, the OCIA President said strangers living in Bori are free to attend the opening plenary session at the Ken Saro-Wiwa Peace and Freedom Center, which begins at 10AM. The plenary will be followed by a brief business session. The outcome will be made public.

The statement added that there will be security search before prospective participants are admitted into the hall.

“It is our responsibility as the Ogoni people to restore peace and security in our land,” Diigbo said.

The conference is in response to recent shootings in Yeghe, Bori and other places, leading to loss of lives and destruction of property.

Participants with information on what happened would be expected to provide them in writing. Guidelines for such submission will be outlined at the conference.
