Kano State Internal Revenue Service has revealed its plan to generate over N3bn through tax to be collected from four million businesses in the informal sector of the state.

This was disclosed by Alhaji Aminu Ali Dambatta, a top official of Sada Idris & Co, one of the five consulting firms engaged by KIRS to collect tax on behalf of the state.

Speaking to journalists during the enumeration exercise of the informal businesses Dambatta said tax payers in the sector have been sensitized and leaders in the various markets in the state had agreed to support them to achieve the desired objectives.

We hope to generate over N3bn within one year from the over 3.5 million tax payers in the sector, he said.

We have met with Kano State Traders Union (KASTU) their leaders were the ones who even fixed the amount to be paid by each of the members of the union. KASTU, Sada Idris & Co, Heritage Cycle Ltd, Ikwan–Investment and Biz Desk are consultants to KIRS on the tax collection exercise, he said.

He added that KIRS was expected to recruit more than 90 staff in order to meet its target of capturing over two million businesses in the sector within four months.

THE NIGERIAN VOICE learnt that the exercise was not restricted to Kano metropolis but to all the 44 local government areas of the state. It was further learnt that over 210 personnel have been recruited by KIRS for proper enumeration of the sector and collection of tax under the exercise.
